Humans Before Resources

      Notwithstanding the fast progress achieved in technology and science fields, I am afraid the evolution of behavior seems to be a far point in the Humans' to-do-list.
      News about current economic and political conflicts around the world remind me of it all the time. It is not the existence of the conflicts that surprises me, but the reason why they remain for centuries: human behavior.
      To make it worse, considering that movie bases its narrative on facts about the past and present, or forecasts and research about what is coming next, the future expectation seems not to be positive. Let us look it closer.
      I am passionate about movies since I was a child. What I like the most about movies is the possibility of observing how its characters behave when facing different conflicts throughout their journey. It seems to be quite simple, but it is not, taking into account the unfair competition among the parts that comprise a movie as a final product: famous casting, special effects, soundtrack, costumes, and others.
      Human behavior in movies is as astonishing and predictable as in real life. In both cases, people tend to classify one's decision based on their own values and patterns, and not in the context instead. 
      The context is the key point to understand people reaction and choices in life and in novels, not the judgment. We cannot come to a conclusion without analyzing the whole context in which such decision was taken. The movie A Monster Calls, written by Patrick Ness from the original idea of Siobhan Dowd, brings up many examples of it, mixing a kind of tale and a terminal illness story novel lived by a boy and his mother, focusing on the way each one struggles with his/her inner fears about the day they must say goodbye. It is an interesting experience that invites us to put ourselves in children's shoes to be able to help them instead of classifying their behavior as good or bad.  On the other hand, it seems that adults are still having children accidentally despite such a bunch of information available.
      A corporate environment seems to be an effective context to observe a human behavior in action as well, playing distinct roles, reaching their extremes when they are put under pressure. No matter when in the human history it happens, the choices look the same.  Downtown Abbey is a drama television series created by Julian Fellowes that perfectly shows the point of view of employers and employees; how they face their fears and fight for their dreams, overcoming any barrier no matter who will be affected by, for good or for bad purposes. Although the narrative describes labor relations at the beginning of the twentieth century, any similarity with current facts is not a mere coincidence. Anyone who has worked in a company may have had similar experiences like that nowadays yet. 
      Let us try to foresee the future by analyzing sci-fiction movies.  Most of them highlight the value of power and individual interests, and how Humans remain fighting for getting them no matter how.
      See the example of the 2015 movie Ex_Machina, written by Alex Garland. We can clearly realize that for developing a state-of-art AI Robot the efforts are not related to humans needs, but power and private interests above fair relationship, personal or professionally speaking.
      Although they are some of the best movies, in my opinion, I do prefer not to believe in a future like those described in sci-fiction movies, like Elysium (the year 2154), written by Neill Blomkamp; the Brazilian series entitled 3% (unknown date hundred years from now), written by Pedro Aguillera; or like What Happened to Monday? (the year 2074), written by Max Botkin and Kerry Williamson. They are just some examples of many descriptions that drive our attention to how harmful the individualism and a selective system might be for Humans worldwide, in a company or in the society. Likewise, it may be an alert about how much we need improving our behavior and be ready to build a better future consequently.

Going Beyond the Border

Comfort Zone can be understood by many as a safe place where you reach the control of your career and life. It is not. It is just a way of hiding yourself and run away from facing changes. Changes, on the other hand, are crucial to our growing and development, and required to be successful in every life role. 

Although I love keeping my things controlled and organized, there is nothing that makes me feel so alive as trying new experiences. I am sure that 2016 was another awesome year in my life with a handful of challenges lived and overcome. 

Among all my achievements, I believe that the most important one was to be present in people's lives, helping them to make their dreams come true, unsettling their minds proposing new meanings by reflecting from a different perspective, as well as letting them redefine my own certainties. It is what I mean when I say 'go beyond', it is go beyond the surface of a relationship, it is not being apathetic and not even invasive, but make the difference.  

'Go beyond the border' is a famous slogan used by my favorite news channel on TV that means a lot. It is not related to the physical and geographic limits, but it is to go deep inside the history, in the relationship, breaking down for the mankind barriers of ignorance and intolerance against all odds.

During my long professional journey working for organizations, in most of the time focused on training and developing people, I could realize that, while defining the annual training program, effective communication was a key competence always required by leaders as a skill to be continuously improved . Experience has demonstrated that, although leaders usually say they value a clear communication and practice an open-door dialogue with their teams, side-effects of miscommunication in hard times frequently arise and no one recognizes them.

After reading Bakhtin and his concepts of dialogue and dialogism I concluded that my findings of reasons why it happens make sense. Leaders, including educators, need to focus on listening and interpreting their audience taking into account all aspects involved in the author's conception and the context at the right moment in which the dialogue happens.

Having a broadened understanding of the subject in question by both leader and employee, respecting the differences, surely positive results from the dialogue will appear, on a gain-to-gain basis.

Além da Fronteira da Língua: a Cultura

Êta mundo bão!

O que me fascina no campo da linguística é  esse movimento vivo e intenso da língua que nos surpreende a cada novo contato com o outro. O segredo inserido em cada palavra pronunciada por outrem me instiga a querer desvendá-lo além de seu significado formal. Vejo as palavras como a materialização da alma, da sensibilidade, da história de cada pessoa. Quando não as temos, não conseguimos nos mostrar de forma clara, completa. Mas quando as dominamos, nos revelamos ao outro e neste movimento de compartilhamento mutuo, nos recriamos a cada nova experiência, na vivência das palavras.

Indo além da mágica que a língua comum proporciona a nós enquanto viventes de um mesmo teto, imagina a riqueza e o poder que o domínio de outros idiomas pode nos proporcionar, o tamanho da nossa evolução quando interagimos com outros povos e culturas, o contato com o diferente e diverso que esta interação global pode promover.

Aprender o idioma inglês é o início desta conquista e por isso é essencial e básico desde sempre para que todos tenham acesso a oportunidades iguais e possam decidir por eles mesmos até onde querem chegar, vivenciar e explorar deste mundo tão longe e tão perto, ao mesmo tempo.

Vivenciar o inglês e com ele alcançar outras culturas é ainda mais grandioso. Quando chegamos a este ponto, percebemos que o idioma inglês apenas abre as portas, deixando-nos ir mais além através dos signos teoricamente equivalentes ou visualmente comuns, mas que podem carregar significados muitos mais amplos e complexos quando analisados dentro do contexto cultural e pessoal do falante.

Esta mútua constitutividade é apresentada por Bakhtin, podendo ser de certa forma comprovada quando ele disse que ..."Nesse encontro dialógico de duas culturas elas não se fundem nem se confundem, mas elas se enriquecem mutuamente."

Posso dizer que pude viver esta magia e descoberta quando conheci uma grande amiga e parceira de estudos, durante meu último intercâmbio. Naquele momento de interação Brasil-Japão, em terras do Tio Sam, descobrimos juntas que a palavra "maybe" apesar de ter o mesmo sentido formal em inglês para ambas, quando inserida no contexto cultural de cada uma, poderia ter interpretações diferentes. De minha parte, expliquei que para os brasileiros, quando usamos a palavra "maybe", há 50% de chance de ser sim e 50% de chance de ser não, mas que vemos como positivo, uma possibilidade de ser sim, pois o brasileiro nunca perde a esperança.  Já na explicação dela, quando um japonês diz "maybe" provavelmente é um não de forma educada, pois se ele tem real interesse já expressa de imediato. Se a resposta não for sim de primeira, e usar o "maybe", não deve ter esperanças de ser um sim.

Acho que esta experiência tem tudo a ver com o que a prof. Claudia Hilsdorf compreende e traz em seu livro, através das palavras de T. M. Maher e suas próprias, sobre a cultura ser "um processo ativo de construção de significados, que nos leva a definir palavras, conceitos, categorias, valores, e nos permite viver no mundo, estabelecendo relações com o outro." (Rocha, 2012, p.85 Reflexões e \propostas sobre Língua Estrangeira no Ensino Fundamental I: plurilinguismo, multiletramento e transculturalidade).

De volta ao presente, resumindo o passado.

Olá, queridos amigos, depois desta longa temporada de férias (na teoria), estou de volta a nossa rotina de encontros "blogais" (acabei de inventar, com a permissão da transculturalidade linguística).
Durante este mês que está quase acabando, estou aproveitando para fazer um estágio de aulas num modelo da metodologia não linear, para aprender um pouco mais sobre as infinitas formas de ensinar. Adoro tudo o que é diferente, fora do padrão, pois acredito no poder que a diversidade tem de abrir nossa mente e nos ajudar a ser mais criativos e compreensivos, com certeza. Apesar de o termo tolerante ser usado como uma competência relacionada à diversidade, eu não o vejo como uma qualidade, pois não representa transformação interior, apenas um esforço de atitude. Compreensão é um termo mais completo e digno neste caso.
Recebi um vídeo no início deste ano que gostei muito, pois representou meu aprendizado, conquistas e crescimento durante o ano de 2015.

Só tenho a agradecer a Deus pelo caminho proposto e explorado até aqui.  Este caminho me mostrou um outro mundo interessante que até então eu não havia conhecido de fato, mas que estava dentro de mim desde sempre, guardado entre as "caixinhas de Platão", congelado por razões que transcendem minha capacidade de entendimento. Mas posso dizer que chegou na hora certa.
A lista de projetos e sonhos para 2016 já está definida e planejada. Que venham os novos desafios para que eu possa compartilhar com vocês.
Que seja um ano de grandes conquistas a todos!

Apresentação Final - Minha Narrativa nas TICs

Neste trabalho unifiquei os principais pontos estudados durante o curso de Tecnologias Digitais e Móveis no Ensino de Línguas, abordados de forma prática nas apresentações elaboradas com o uso de algumas ferramentas que conhecemos. Usei informações sobre quem sou, o ambiente em que nasci e cresci, meus objetivos e projetos futuros.

Foi uma experiencia muito boa participar deste curso, pois além de trazer informações sobre tendências e ferramentas digitais disponíveis, o curso ofereceu uma análise das metodologias de ensino atual e reflexão sobre as mudanças necessárias: as que aguardam uma atitude nossa e as que independem de nossa vontade. Tudo isso ocorrendo num contexto social dinâmico e complexo que carece de ações para sua adequação ao perfil da nova geração de alunos.

Curso muito interessante, importante e indicado para todos os professores e profissionais da área de ensino envolvidos com o planejamento e elaboração de conteúdo/ material didático.
